Post subject:  FrSky SBus not recovering after Signal Lost

Hi Thomas

I'm using Frsky with ACESS RS and XSR Receivers. Did force signal Lost using Range test. Failsafe kicks in.
But Spirit won't recover to normal operation once I'm getting back to the Helicopter.
However I do get Telemetry from Spirit trough integration cable and Receiver is solid green.
Well starting any spirit LUA script and controls are back as well.
Seams as SBUS input on spirit is not processed anymore till there is a trigger like SPORT processing.
I'm running 3.2.1 on Spirit

Let me know if I have to test something else.
It's easy to reproduce, just walk 20m away and put Transmitter in a Metal box during range test to simulate lost signal.

regards, Adrian

Hi,

thank you for your report.
Is the same thing happening after turning radio off?

What is your radio?

I use X9D with Access and failure is the same on turning radio OFF.

To monitor what's going on on SBUS I did add Monitor in parallel to RUD Connector.
I did configure Pitch on
RX Failsafe to max (1083us)
Spirit Failsafe to neutral (1500us) and
Radio input to minimum (1932us), to see what kicks in.

After turning system on. Everything works as expected. SBSU on Chanel 6 (Pitch) is moving with Stick input.
Turning Radio OFF, Pitch goes to max. Failsafe from RX is used, SBUS reads 1083.
After 1 Sec. Pitch goes to neutral, meaning Failsafe from Spirit kicks in. But SBSU still reads 1083, Failsafe Value from RX.
Why is Failsafe from Spirit used, if Failsafe from RX is sending solid valid signal?
Is there a Information on SBUS on Failsafe operation in use?
During this Radio OFF time, sometimes I see TS jumping just a tiny little bit every 4-5 Seconds, like Spirit is evaluating SBUS but not trusting it.

After powering Radio back on. 5 out of 10 times Spirit remains in Failsafe.
SBUS Monitor always reads solid 1930. Meaning Radio recovered fully and controls are back to transmitter.
But Spirit remain in Failsafe operation.

It's sometimes also possible to recover by starting Lua Spirit scripts like the log view.
Telemetry from Frsky like RSSI und RxBat is always recovered.

Hope this helps.
regards, Adrian

Hello Adrian,

do you power up your Flybarless thru the Toolkit RC ? Have you only powered the Flybarless with your ESC directly or have you powered it with a LIPO ? Make this any differences or did you get the same behavior ? I ask you because a time ago I also powered my Spirit II with the Toolkit RC and got a strange behaviour (on/of etc.) - Since I putted an Lipo directly in the Flybarless the problems are gone also by powering it up with the ESC all works perfectly -

Best Regards
Matthias

It is very sad that there is problem in implementing SBUS in the same way in these FrSky receivers.
We are using a common receivers for FrSky and such problems are not present. So we have to find what is different and what is introducing this problem.

Now we have bought Radiomaster TX16S for testing.

@Matthias, thanks for the hint, but I'm using RCToolikt only for monitoring with disconnected +5V on SBUS, RX Power is from ESC.

@Spirit Dev., I guess there is something different with Byte 24 in SBUS Protocol CH17, CH18, Framelost and FailSafe Flags.
Unfortunately I don't' have a HW Protocol analyzer to debug at this level. But if you have got some Arduino Code, allowing Monitoring and output on Serial I might give it a go.

Thanks a lot, Adrian

That would be very useful - yes, I can prepare firmware for you that will show us what is received. Then we can fix it quite easily I believe.
Thank you!
