Hello everyone, I have been flying various helis with Spirit FBLs (Spirit Pro & Spirit 2) and a Radiomaster TX16S transmitter for years. I also use the FrSky/Spirit/Hobbywing ESC telemetry with the FrSky integration cable together with a FrSky XSR receiver. Never had any problems with it so far. However, I have now bought a new FrSky Tandem X20 Pro AW transmitter and a FrSky TWMX receiver and have replaced the previous XSR receiver with the new TWMX. Now I have a problem, unfortunately the Spirit FrSky integration cable does not seem to work with the TWMX receiver. I have an MLVSS LiPo sensor and a Unisens-E multisensor connected to the FrSky SPort, both sensors work with the TWMX receiver, as long as I do not connect the integration cable, if I only connect the integration cable alone to the SPort (without Spirit Pro), both sensors already fail. This means that I cannot retrieve any telemetry from the Spirit Pro (Spirit, GeoLink, ESC, etc.), by the way, I have tried two different integration cables, both show the same problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

Best regards, Erwin

Hello,

have you tried the same without SPORT sensors?

The problem could also b, the SPORT and FBUS sensors are not compatible. We recommend using FBUS that makes wiring much easier, but for this sensors must used a proper firmware.
I have no idea what receiver protocol you are using now. So it is hard to help more.

Hi, thanks for the quick reply, here is the rest of my setup data: Spirit Pro with firmware 3.7.1, control protocol SBUS, telemetry protocol SPort, receiver FrSky TWMX with control protocol SBUS and telemetry protocol SPort. Because of my sensors I MUST use SPort, they can only do that. If I remove my SPort sensors and connect the TWMX receiver to the Spirit Pro using only the integration cable, unfortunately no sensors are found during the sensor search (Spirit, Geolink, Hobbywing ESC), with the old FrSky XSR receiver it worked. However, I still have two new receivers, another FrSky TWMX and a FrSky TW mini, I will solder cables to both and carry out further tests. Does the Spirit Pro have to be switched from FBUS to SPort somewhere in the setup or does it recognize the protocols automatically?

Best regards, Erwin

Ok, I found the settings for FrSky F.Port and FrSky F.Bus in the Spirit Settings App but I am using Futaba S-Bus correctly as I absolutely need S.Port for telemetry. I will do further tests.

Best regards, Erwin

Hello everyone, after hours of testing I have found out the following: with my new radio FrSky Tandem X20 Pro AW and a new receiver FrSky TW mini in FrSky TWIN mode I was able to retrieve all telemetry data from the Spirit Pro (GeoLink & Hobbywing Platinum V4 ESC) and my own sensors (FrSky MLVSS, SM Unisens-E). Unfortunately, the Spirit ETHOS LUA Script does not work at all, I cannot receive any data from the Spirit Pro (ETHOS V1.5.18 EU, ETHOS LUA Script V3.7.1-R2, Spirit Pro V3.7.1). I have also tested with the Spirit Wifi-Link and the Spirit Bluetooth module, both work. I have also tested with my previous configuration, a Radiomaster TX16S radio and a FrSky XSR receiver, the LUA script on EdgeTx no longer works with the Spirit Pro! I cannot retrieve any data from the Spirit Pro with the script either, but the telemetry works perfectly (from the Spirit and from my sensors). The S.Port protocol was used for all tests.

Best regards, Erwin

One thing I forgot to mention: when testing with the ETHOS and OpenTx/EdgeTx LUA script, I always unplugged my sensors (FrSky MLVSS, SM Unisens-E), I remember that this was also necessary in the past.

Best regards, Erwin

Hello,
for OpenTX and Edgtx you need this config:
https://manual.spirit-system.com/index.php?title=OpenTX_Integration

I really don't know if ETHOS can work with SBus and SPort with integration - it is an FrSky and no Futaba radio and I think you must work at minimum with FPort-Protocol - FPort is SBus with SPort in one single cable but then your other sensors maybe not work correctly (telemetry) you need to test this -

Or use FBus Protocol, hardcopy from FrSky-Page:

Hint to FrSky FPort:

Hint to SBus (Futaba) if needed:

Thank you very much Mattes61 for your contribution. I know the Spirit manual very well as I have been using Spirit stabilizers for years already (Spirit, Spirit Pro, Spirit 2). As I mentioned before, my previous configuration (that was before my new FrSky X20 Pro radio) was a Radiomaster TX16S with OpenTX and a FrSky XSR receiver with SBUS and S.Port connected to a Spirit Pro with the older firmware 3.4.1 using an integration cable. SBUS was used for the channels, via S.Port I got the telemetry from the Spirit Pro (GeoLink & Hobbywing Platinum V4) and with the help of the Spirit LUA script for OpenTX I could easily configure the Spirit Pro from the TX16S radio. In other words, everything already worked. By the way I can't use FPort or FBUS because my FrSky MLVSS and SM Unisens-E sensors have only the S.Port integrated. In the meantime I have EdgeTx running on the TX16S radio and I have updated the Spirit Pro to the latest firmware 3.7.1 and since then the telemetry works (as I said via S.Port) but no longer the configuration via the LUA script.

Best regards, Erwin

Hello Erwin,
maybe the firmware has an bug because here you can see also a problem with telemetry:
https://www.spirit-system.com/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?f=20&t=6266

Have you tested with firmware 3.7.0 of spirit, the previous config and your newest config to rule out that it is not another problem?

I have also an Tadiomaster TX16 S with EdgeTX 2.10.4 and there works the integration and telemetry flawless - I have an Radiomaster receiver with ACCST-Protocol and an FPort-Configuration -

Maybe the TWMX-receiver needs an firmwareupdate ?

Regards
Matthias

Hello Matthias, first of all, thank you again for your feedback! No, I have not yet tried to downgrade the Spirit Pro to an older firmware, but I will definitely give it a try. Of course I immediately updated the new FrSky TW mini receiver to the latest firmware, you must know that I am a retired hardware and software developer (now 72 years old already :D ) for microcontrollers and have practiced this profession for 36 years, so I already have a certain routine in troubleshooting ;) . Despite everything, I have just ordered a new Spirit GT to replace the Spirit Pro, I have been wanting to get one for a long time. I will continue to report here on how I get on with the tests. I definitely want to get the setup working with the Radiomaster AND with the new FrSky X20 Pro, my ambition as a (former) professional developer alone dictates that ;) .

Best regards, Erwin
